I comb the library shelves looking for a book I need for a report. It’s getting harder and harder to focus on schoolwork. It’s not just the sugar daddy stuff. Or the three boyfriends thing. Or the fake boyfriend and the FBI. It’s the fact there’s only three months of school left, all my college applications are in, and there’s little to no chance I’m failing my senior year, yet my teachers keep assigning these projects like our educations depend on it.

Yeah, I have senioritis, which seems stupid compared to the other big stuff going on in my life.

The actual stacks in our school library are relatively unused, people using the computer lab across the building. But our AP history teacher requires actual references, from a physical book, which means I’ve been winding my way through the maze of shelves for a while now. I confess; I’m not the best at the Dewey-Decimal System, and I breathe a sigh of relief when I finally find the book I’m looking for—a discussion on regional politics.

I’m flipping through the pages, when I sense someone at the end of the row. Hairs rise on the back of my neck and one glance tells me I know who’s coming.

“You haunting libraries now?” I ask Ezra, who is notorious for not being the best student. He’s smart and gets good grades without trying because he tends to use his powers for mischief more than knowledge. I have little doubt he’ll follow his father’s footsteps into the law one day—hopefully, though, he won’t be about covering up for bad guys.

I’m pretty sure he’s up to no good right now and it sends a thrill up my spine.

“Just looking for you,” he replies. I can’t help but take him in; the perfectly fitting jeans and hunter green sweater that highlight his dark eyes. “This seemed like a pretty safe place to run into you. No one comes back here.”

He’s right, and that’s why I’m surprised when a figure moves at the opposite end of the row. I look back and see Finn, another non-regular in the library stacks.

I sense an ambush.

“I assume you’re not here for a book either,” I say, facing him. Ezra takes the opportunity to slide his hands around my waist, pulling me into his chest. His lips press against the heat of my neck.

“You know you’re killing us with this Luke thing,” Finn says, walking toward me. His football hoodie is stretched tight across his shoulders.

“You know it’s not real.”

“He doesn’t have to be quite so handsy.”

“He’s trying to make our relationship look realistic.” Ezra’s hand slips under my shirt and lays flat across my belly. Finn’s eyes stare at my lips. “And he definitely likes to get a rise out of you.”

“Which is why we’re not beating the shit out of him right now,” Ezra says in my ear. His mouth is hot, and his teeth drag against my earlobe.

Finn closes the gap between us, tipping my chin with his fingers. “We just figured it’s better to remind you who you really belong to.
